ABC Blocks

These small painted blocks were born out of the challenge to create tiny artworks - under 3" x 3". Since I've been painting a lot of toys lately, I had the idea to use children's ABC blocks as my painting surface, and create a kind of art-toy.

I found used ABC blocks from a thrift store and painted one side each to show at Tiny Gallery St. Johns in Portland, Oregon in February 2025. This first round of toy blocks have images of video game cartridges, power outlet faces, and various microchips. Modern toys are typically electronic, and it seems most kids would rather play with video games than these toy blocks they are shown on.

With my leftover blanks, I painted my own alphabet letters and continued with the tiny toy / outlet paintings.
